My Wi-Fi has been so sluggish lately that I have to constantly reboot the router just to get anything to work.
The problem is that I live in an apartment, and I only have one internet outlet — right where the router is. Running a cable elsewhere isn’t an option, so I can’t really switch to a wired connection.
what would you really do if you were me?
First, run diagnostics to figure out the problem. Download a scanner like NetSpot and check the airwaves for congestion. Interference is common in apartments. Check which channels other networks are using and whether they’re interrupting your signal. If the channels are clogged, simply reconfigure them. If not, then it’s time to look for a proper mesh or newer hardware.
@Critical-Tailor-17 I checked a bit and my 5 GHz is on channel 161.
2.4 GHz was on channel 8. Not really sure what that tells me though.
if you haven’t actually scanned nearby networks yet, do that before changing random stuff. You want to know whether those nearby SSIDs are strong enough to matter. Analyzer apps show what’s actually happening around you. They’ll show whether neighboring networks are sitting on top of your channel, how strong they are, and whether there’s a cleaner option.
By the way, if both your frequencies (2.4 and 5 GHz) are named the same, I’d separate them for now. That way, you’ll immediately understand which one your device is failing on. Right now, the router decides for itself where to put you, and you’re just wondering what the problem is.
