Hey guys, Need some help troubleshooting my Aqara video doorbell. The video quality is fine, but the live stream audio is driving me crazy. It’s either massively out of sync (delayed by a few seconds) or there is completely no sound at all.
It seems to happen randomly, and sometimes restarting the app fixes it temporarily, but it always comes back.
My Wi-Fi signal shows as “Good” in the app, but I’m wondering Is this a WiFi issue, a bandwidth issue, or maybe some router settings (like 2.4GHz vs 5GHz band steering) messing things up?
Has anyone dealt with this? Any specific router tweaks or settings I should check to fix the audio lag?
Appreciate any advice!
Don’t trust the -35 dBm number as proof that everything is fine.
That only tells you the signal is strong. It doesn’t tell you whether the 2.4 GHz channel is clean, whether the chime link is stable, or whether HomeKit/Aqara is handling the audio stream properly.
@ShadowBoxer_88 That’s what confused me. I saw -35 and assumed WiFi couldn’t be the problem. The video usually loads, but the audio is either delayed or missing. Sometimes restarting the app helps, sometimes not.
Welcome to the club. The Aqara G4 is super sensitive to 2.4GHz network congestion. Live audio requires a continuous, unfragmented stream. If your router is constantly jumping channels on “Auto”, the audio sync breaks instantly. Use an app like NetSpot. Run a scan near your front door. Find the least crowded non-overlapping channel (1, 6, or 11) and lock your router to it. Do NOT leave it on Auto.
@Normal_Reach_4162 Thanks! I actually just downloaded NetSpot to check the signal near the front door. Turns out my 2.4GHz is an absolute warzone. My router was on Auto and sitting on channel 6, which had like 12 overlapping neighbor networks.
+1 for NetSpot. I had the exact same issue — video was fine (buffering hides minor drops), but audio was lagging by 4 seconds or completely muted. NetSpot showed my neighbor’s router was overlapping on channel 3. Switched my router to a clean channel 11 and audio is now perfectly synced.
Are you using Apple HomeKit (HKSV) by any chance? There’s a known firmware bug where live stream audio just disappears.
@HappyFace I am using HomeKit, yes! I noticed the audio cuts out mostly when viewing through the Apple Home app, while the native Aqara app works a bit better. Just tried your workaround with the Recording Options toggle. It instantly brought the audio back, thank you!
