We’re testing NetSpot Survey in a factory and running into a usability problem.
We have around 70 APs, multiple SSIDs, and both 2.4 and 5 GHz in play. Right now everything is showing up by BSSID, which gets messy fast when you’re trying to identify which AP is actually where.
Is there a way in NetSpot to show a friendlier AP name instead of just the BSSID?
Yes — NetSpot supports AP aliases. You can assign an alias to an AP, and that name can show up in Survey instead of forcing you to work only with BSSIDs.
@Sharp-Homework187 Thanks, that was a great help! Can you tell me if this can be configured locally within a project or does it need to be configured system-wide?
Both, actually. In Survey Mode, you can right-click an AP on the left sidebar and choose Add AP alias. That makes it easy to rename APs directly inside the project. NetSpot also says those project-specific aliases will show up on the map. If you want something broader, you can also add global aliases in Inspector Mode or import them from a CSV file. New surveys will then use those aliases automatically.
Well, if you have about 70 points, I wouldn’t bother with each one individually; I’d just import everything via CSV. NetSpot lets you import a file with the BSSID in one column and the alias in the other. For large installations like a factory, this is much more practical.
@FuelProfessional75 Great, you helped me out. Entering 70 points manually would have been a joy – you saved me a ton of stress!
