Need help placing an access point

I’m trying to improve Wi-Fi coverage in this house and I’m not sure where the access point should go. Internet comes in near the kitchen area, and I’m trying to figure out the best place to put a Wi-Fi access point. I marked two possible spots on the plan, but I’m not sure if either one makes sense.

Main problem areas are the bedrooms and the master suite. The family/lounge areas are also used a lot, so I don’t want to fix one side of the house and make the other side terrible.

Would one AP be enough for this layout, or should I be thinking about two? And where would you place it?

That layout is kinda awkward for one AP. You’ve got a bunch of rooms branching off in different directions, plus bathrooms, laundry, garage side, and probably some heavier walls around the wet areas. One AP in the middle might cover “most” of the house, but I wouldn’t expect perfect 5 GHz coverage everywhere. If I had to guess from the picture only, I’d lean toward two APs: one around the kitchen/dining/family side, and another closer to the bedroom/master side. One AP may technically work, but it’ll probably be a compromise.

That floor plan is not exactly AP-friendly. If I had to guess, I’d start somewhere central near the kitchen/scullery area, but again, that’s just a guess from a picture.

Nobody can answer this properly from only a floor plan screenshot. Need wall materials, ceiling height, AP model, mounting options, target speed, 2.4/5/6 GHz expectations, where people actually use devices, and whether you can run Ethernet.Try a Wi-Fi planning app. NetSpot is a good option for this because you can load the floor plan, set wall materials, choose or model an access point, and test different AP placements virtually.

The red-ish spot looks better for living areas, but probably weak for master/bed 5 side.
The green-ish spot looks better for the bedroom side, but worse for family/lounge/dining. That’s usually the sign that one AP is a compromise, not a solution. If you only want one, pick the area where you actually need Wi-Fi most. If you want the whole house to feel consistent, plan for two.
