My PS5 has been driving me insane lately.
During the morning/afternoon it usually works fine, but in the evening it gets noticeably worse. Games start lagging, menus feel slow, downloads crawl, and sometimes the connection just feels unstable for no obvious reason.
I’ve cleared the cache and rebuilt the database a couple times but it didn’t really change anything.
What confused me is that I turned on my Xbox to see if the WiFi itself was the problem and that seemed totally fine.
Both consoles are on WiFi.
Is there something specific with the PS5 I should be looking at?
Xbox working doesn’t automatically clear the WiFi. Are they actually in the same spot and connected to the same band/AP? One could be on 5 GHz with a decent signal while the other is hanging onto 2.4 or a weaker AP.
@Householder Same room, maybe 6 feet apart. Router is downstairs though, so there are a couple walls/floor between them. I honestly have no idea which band either console is using.
There’s no point in testing your network at lunchtime if it only drops in the evening. Catch the problem in real time. Use a Wi-Fi analyzer ( NetSpot will do ) to measure the signal in a specific room. Check the 5 GHz channel load: when neighbors come home in the evening, the networks overlap, and what was a perfect picture at 10:00 AM turns into hell by 8:00 PM.
@RSSI_Master Exactly. And don’t just go “I can see 15 networks therefore interference”. A bunch of -85 dBm networks barely reaching you isn’t the same as three neighbors sitting around -50/-60 on the same chunk of spectrum.Signal strength matters.
@RSSI_Master That actually lines up with when it happens. Usually around 7–10pm is when it gets really bad. Late at night it sometimes settles down again.
