Starlink drops during meetings

We have the Starlink residential plan and usually get around 150–200 Mbps, but I keep having this annoying issue during work calls.

A couple times a day Teams/Zoom will freeze or disconnect completely, then reconnect maybe 30–60 seconds later.

I work from the basement and the WiFi signal is definitely weaker down there. I originally thought it might just be Starlink switching satellites or something.

Do these short drops sound like a Starlink issue, or do I just need a better router/mesh setup for the basement?

To determine the cause of the outages, check the outage history in the Starlink app : if it shows network problems or no signal, the problem is with the terminal, but if the connection only drops on the laptop in the basement, the problem is with your local WiFi.

@FreeFall_0220 Caught it twice today and checked. Nothing obvious showed up in Outages either time. My wife was streaming upstairs during one of the drops and apparently that never stopped either. So I guess the actual Starlink connection stayed up.

Then I’d look at the WiFi before replacing the Starlink router. I use NetSpot for this kind of thing. Do a quick survey from where the router is down to your office and see where the signal actually falls off.

Also don’t upgrade the Starlink plan trying to fix this.
