Guys, I’m fed up with the blind spots on Google Wifi. I’ve been eyeing the Asus ZenWiFi XT8. Is it worth it to finally get through the walls?
Why buy an Asus XT8 blindly when you can figure everything out first? Run your apartment plan in NetSpot Planning Mode. There you can virtually draw your walls (concrete, plaster), scatter Asus XT8 points across the rooms, and see a heat map of coverage before you even get your credit card. Most problems aren’t due to weak hardware, but rather a poorly designed layout. The NetSpot planner will immediately show you whether the XT8 backhaul will penetrate your walls or whether the second node will end up in a dead zone, where it’s useless. Model the network, find the ideal locations for the points on the diagram, and only then spend $400.

This is the right approach to design. Planning Mode saves a ton of time and money. People buy three expensive mesh blocks, arrange them haphazardly, get interference, and then complain on forums that ASUS is crap.
