I have two Apple TV 4Ks in different rooms, and both of them periodically drop Wi-Fi or get “No Network”.
The strangest thing is that the decline happens all at once , usually at the beginning of the evening.
At the same time, smartphones and laptops do not lose the network, which is why I don’t understand: is this a bug in the set-top boxes themselves or a problem with the router?
The router’s configuration includes automatic channel selection , but otherwise, there are no complaints about the network — everything works reliably.
How can I isolate the problem and find the culprit without rebooting my entire home network every time?
Since both TVs are doing it at roughly the same time, I’d check the router logs first. See if the WiFi radio is changing channels or doing some kind of optimization around that time. If both devices fall off right after the AP moves channels, that’s a much more useful clue than “Apple TV hates me”.
You can also watch that from the client side. Open a WiFi analyzer when everything is normal and check again after one of the dropouts. NetSpot will show the BSSID/channel the network is actually using. If you’re on channel 44, both TVs drop, and suddenly the AP is sitting somewhere else, I’d start looking pretty hard at auto channel selection.
@Frag_King_XX Interesting. I honestly never thought about the router changing channels because I just left everything on Auto when I set it up. There is an automatic optimization option enabled.
Worth saying that clients are supposed to handle channel changes. So if every phone and laptop reconnects instantly while both Apple TVs sit there showing “No Network”, there could still be something pple-TV-specific going on. But at least you’d know what triggers it.
Pick a sane fixed 5 GHz channel for a few days and see whether the pattern disappears. Not saying auto channel selection is inherently bad, but it removes one moving part while you’re troubleshooting.
@Young_Lefessy Yeah, that’s basically what I want to figure out. If the channel stays put and they still both drop, then I can stop blaming that and move on.
