Artemis randomly skips frames every 30 seconds, network latency spikes

Hi all, I’m trying to figure out a weird issue with local game streaming.

My host PC is wired to the router with 2.5 GbE. Client is an Odin 2 Portal connected over Wi-Fi 6 on 5 GHz. I’m using VibeApollo on the host and Artemis on the client.

Settings are pretty normal: 1080p, 120 fps, HDR on, low latency mode, balanced frame pacing, and around 60 Mbps bitrate.

Everything was basically perfect until a couple of days ago. It felt almost native. Now, every 30–40 seconds, I get a short frame skip/stutter for maybe half a second. The performance overlay shows rendered FPS dipping and network latency/jitter spiking at the same time.

I already tried lowering bitrate to 25 Mbps, changing resolution, switching between VibeApollo/Apollo/Sunshine, disabling HAGS, changing virtual display settings, and trying a couple different Wi-Fi channels. Nothing really fixed it.Help please!

This sounds exactly like Wi-Fi congestion or channel weirdness. Download NetSpot on the Odin and scan the 5 GHz band. Check what channel your FRITZ!Box is using, what nearby networks are around it, and whether your signal level is stable where you play. It’s very possible nothing changed in Apollo/Artemis at all — a neighbor may have added a router, your router may have auto-switched channels, or your 5 GHz channel may now be crowded. Also try lowering channel width. If you’re on 160 MHz, try 80 MHz. If 80 still spikes, test 40 MHz just to compare. Wider isn’t always better for streaming if the air is noisy.

Check if the FRITZ!Box is using DFS channels. DFS can be fine, but if the router detects radar or decides to move channels, clients can act weird for a bit. Even without a full disconnect, I’ve seen random stutters when routers are doing auto-channel nonsense. For testing, pick a fixed clean 5 GHz channel manually if your router allows it. Don’t leave everything on auto while troubleshooting.

The fact that it still happens at 25 Mbps is the clue. If dropping from 60 to 25 doesn’t change much, it’s probably not raw bandwidth. It’s jitter, retries, interference, roaming, DFS, or router/client power saving. Try sitting right next to the router and testing the same stream. If it becomes perfect, it’s RF/channel/signal. If it still spikes right next to the router, then look at router CPU, firmware, client power saving, or something running on the Odin.

Thanks, that gives me a better direction.
