Can someone help me understand this NetSpot survey?

Total noob here, so please roast me gently if this is a dumb question. My bedroom Wi-Fi has been straight-up trash lately. I read that NetSpot could fix my life, so I ran a survey of my place. Now I’m staring at this heatmap and I’m totally lost. The bedroom is looking super blue and purple compared to the rest of the crib. So what now?

Well, Netspot is a great app, but it won’t solve the problem on its own. It’s a diagnostic tool, so expecting it to somehow fix the Wi-Fi problem is silly.

That blue and purple on your heatmap means your bedroom is straight-up starved for signal compared to the living room. The next play is figuring out why it’s dropping. Could be distance, but usually, it’s thick walls, big appliances, something like that.

Look closely at the wall between the router and your bedroom. The signal is cooking in the living/dining area, but then it takes a massive dive right at that wall. That means something is straight-up absorbing the signal. Is that wall dummy thick or something?

@AutoPilot_2012 Yeah, actually. That wall is pretty thick. It also has decorative metal panels on it, and there’s a TV mounted there.

Metal absolutely obliterates Wi-Fi, and that TV is just icing on the cake. Before you throw money at a new setup, just move the router so it doesn’t have to punch through that monster wall. Even shifting it a few feet, raising it up, or putting it out in the open will change the game. Run NetSpot again after. If it’s still tragic, then look into a mesh node — but put the node halfway, where the signal is still decent, not inside the dead zone.

Oh wow, thanks everyone. This actually makes a lot more sense now. I didn’t realize all of that could affect the signal. I’m going to try moving the router to a better spot and then run another NetSpot survey to see if things improve. I’ll report back with the results once I’ve tested it.
