Hey, probably a dumb beginner question.
People here told me to download NetSpot on Android because my WiFi is bad in some rooms. I installed it and now I see a table with nearby networks, signal levels, channels, some graphs, and channel recommendations.
But I’m confused. How do I actually use this to make my WiFi stronger?
I don’t really understand how to improve my WiFi using this, or is it just showing me numbers?
There is no “make WiFi stronger” button.
NetSpot doesn’t boost your signal by itself. It shows you what’s wrong so you can fix the right thing instead of randomly moving your router around like a cursed houseplant.
Look at:
your signal level in the bad room
what band you’re on, 2.4 or 5 GHz
what channel your router uses
how crowded that channel is
whether NetSpot suggests a better channel
Then you change the router settings or router placement based on that.
@Prize-Marsupial-9 Okay, that makes more sense. So if it recommends a different channel, I need to go into my router settings and change it there, right? NetSpot doesn’t change it for me?
Correct. NetSpot is the measuring tool, not the router control panel. On Android, the channel recommendation is useful because it looks at nearby networks and helps you see which channels are less messy. But you still have to log into your router and change the WiFi channel manually.
Sadly, nobody has invented the magic “boost my WiFi” app yet. And if you really don’t want to learn any of that stuff, that’s also fine. That’s why network engineers exist
