My laptop randomly drops Wi-Fi

My internet on my laptop keeps randomly disconnecting, but the router itself seems fine. I already called my ISP and they said everything looks fine on their side. It seems to happen more often when Discord is open or when I’m playing online games. Any idea what could cause this?

Have you tried changing the Wi-Fi channel?

@BluejayKitchen19 I agree, I’d check your Wi-Fi environment before changing random settings. Just don’t randomly switch channels. It’s ineffective and you could end up switching to an equally crowded channel. Use a Wi-Fi channel scanner, like NetSpot, to see what’s happening on your network: signal strength, band, channel, channel width, and nearby networks. If you see that your router is running on a crowded channel, try switching to a clearer one. Try connecting it to 5 GHz and see if the connection drops stop.

Since it happens during Discord or games, I’d also look at the laptop’s Wi-Fi adapter settings. On Windows, go to Device Manager, open the Wi-Fi adapter properties, and check the power management tab. Disable the option that allows Windows to turn off the device to save power.

Ah, that makes sense. I guess I was blaming Discord/games because that’s when I notice it, but maybe they’re just making the problem obvious.
