New Wi-Fi 7 gateway, but my phone won’t see the 6 GHz band

Just swapped my old router for a new wifi 7 gateway. turned on all 3 bands (2.4, 5, 6ghz) during setup. 2.4 and 5 are working fine, devices connecting n everything. but i literally cant get my phone to see the 6ghz band at all wtf.

ran netspot to check what’s up and the scan only shows 2.4 and 5ghz. zero 6ghz. the weird part is my phone 100% supports it, used to connect to it on my old router completely fine. right now im like 15ft away, same floor, just one wall between us. is the gateway dead on arrival or is 6ghz just super picky? what should I check first?? smh

Check your security settings for the 6GHz band in the admin panel ASAP.

  • FYI: Wi-Fi 6E/7 strictly requires WPA3-SAE.

  • If your new gateway defaulted to WPA2 or some mixed mode for that band, the router basically blocks itself from broadcasting 6GHz. Switch it to WPA3 only and it should pop up.

Lowkey sounds like a client issue. what network card is in the laptop/PC you’re running NetSpot on? NetSpot cant magic up a 6ghz signal if your laptop’s wifi card doesn’t support it physically (u need like an Intel AX210 or BE200). If ur laptop is old (wifi 6 or 5 only), NetSpot is gonna be blind to 6GHz even if the gateway is blasting it full power.

One wall at 20 feet is already pushing it for 6GHz, bro.

Keep in mind: if your laptop is old, NetSpot is going to be completely blind to those newer 6GHz signals, even if your router is blasting them at full power.

Holy shit that makes so much sense. the gateway defaulted to wpa2/wpa3 mixed, so it wasn’t even broadcasting 6ghz. AND my laptop only has an older wifi 6 card, so netspot was hardware blind anyway changed security to wpa3-only, split the ssids, and grabbed my roommate’s newer m3 macbook. BAM — netspot showed all 3 bands instantly and my phone connected right away!! saved me from returning this gateway fr, thanks guys! :raising_hands::joy:
