Not sure what happened here.
This morning I downloaded a ~25 GB update on my PS5 with no issues. A few hours later I tried installing another update and it suddenly estimated 18+ hours for about 30 GB.
Thought it was just that game, so I canceled it and tried downloading something else. Same thing. Even a 2 GB update that would normally take a couple minutes was estimating almost an hour.
I’ve restarted the PS5, rebooted the router and even rebuilt the database. Nothing changed.
The console is on WiFi and nothing in my setup has been moved today.
Any idea what I should be checking?
You’re troubleshooting the game before you’ve established whether the network is actually okay.What does the PS5 connection test show? And run a speed test on another device from roughly the same location. If your phone/laptop is also slow, that’s one problem. If they’re getting 300 Mbps while the PS5 gets 15, that’s a very different problem.
@frozen_shift_X Good point. PS5 test is showing around 22–28 Mbps download right now.Laptop sitting basically beside it gets 260–290 Mbps. Internet plan is 500 Mbps and normally the PS5 downloads way faster than this.
Check what band the PS5 is actually using. Mine randomly ended up on 2.4 GHz once even though 5 GHz was available and download speeds went straight into the toilet. You can force the PS5 to prefer 5 GHz from the WiFi network selection screen.
It’s already on 5 GHz. Tried disconnecting/reconnecting too. Got about 70 Mbps for a minute and then it dropped back into the 20s.
Could be interference rather than the PS5 itself. I’d run a WiFi scan near the console and see what the 5 GHz band actually looks like. NetSpot is useful for this — it’ll show the nearby networks, their channels and signal levels, so you can see if your AP is sitting in a crowded chunk of spectrum. Especially worth checking if it worked fine earlier the same day. Your setup didn’t change, but the RF around you absolutely can.
