Saw a weird device on my network and now I’m mildly freaking out

Checked my network today and saw a device I don’t recognize. Could be nothing, could be some random thing I forgot I set up, but I want to know before I start changing passwords and nuking everything.

What’s the easiest way to identify an unknown device on your network?

Half the time, it’s not a hacker, but simply a device you’ve already forgotten about. Look under the “manufacturer” heading if your router displays it. This is usually the fastest way to identify the device.

If you’re on iPhone, you can try NetSpot. It has a useful device detection feature — it scans everything currently connected to your Wi-Fi. This is usually enough to figure out whether you’re really someone you don’t know or just some old gadget everyone’s long forgotten about.

@Ok-Cantaloupe-90 Thanks! Turns out it was just the robot vacuum’s base unit showing up online. I completely forgot this thing even had Wi-Fi. So, stand down, false alarm.
