Why does a Wi-Fi network still appear after the device is turned off?

I’m testing Wi-Fi output power on a custom board and using NetSpot to watch the signal strength.

The board creates its own Wi-Fi network. I can see it in NetSpot and I can see the signal level. But when I switch the custom board off, the Wi-Fi network is still shown in NetSpot for around two minutes before it disappears.

I also tried restarting NetSpot, but the switched-off network still appears for a while.

What I really want is to change the Wi-Fi output power on my custom board and immediately see the signal strength change without delay. Is there some setting in NetSpot to make the network disappear instantly when the board is off, or refresh faster?

NetSpot is just showing the Wi‑Fi scan results provided by the operating system.

NetSpot shows the picture that the system (Windows) sees. If it still shows the same results after restarting the app, it’s clearly not a bug. What you’re trying to achieve can likely only be achieved by configuring your hardware.

@Subject-Gap-4864 Exactly. On Windows in particular, NetSpot is just showing what the operating system and Wi‑Fi driver report. Scan results are cached at the system level, so a network can still appear for a short time even after the access point has been turned off. That’s why restarting NetSpot doesn’t immediately remove it — the system is still feeding it the last known scan data until it refreshes or the entry expires. So this isn’t really a NetSpot issue or something the app can speed up. If it still shows the same network after a restart, it’s clearly not a bug in NetSpot — it’s just reflecting what Windows sees. What you’re trying to achieve (instant visibility of TX power changes) is usually only possible by adjusting how your own hardware is transmitting, or by using more direct RF measurement tools instead of scan-based Wi‑Fi analysis software.
