Not sure what happened to my router but the WiFi range has gotten really bad over the last couple days. Nothing was moved or changed afaik. Is the router dying or is there something else I should check first?
Did you try actually unplugging it for a few mins? Not just rebooting it from the app. Pull the power, leave it alone for like 2–3 minutes, plug it back in.
@Savage_20_3S Yeah, already did that. I also unplugged/reconnected the modem and all the cables just in case. No difference unfortunately.
I’d check the actual signal level. Grab NetSpot or any WiFi analyzer and watch the RSSI while walking away from the router. Check it right next to the router, then again 10–20 ft away. If the signal absolutely falls off a cliff with basically no walls between you, I’d start suspecting the router/radio itself rather than your internet connection.
@AverageJoe9274 I ran a scan like you said. It’s around -40 dBm right next to the router and drops into the -70 dBm range pretty fast when I walk into the next room. Is that normal? I don’t really know how to interpret these numbers, but it seems like a pretty big drop for such a short distance. Only one drywall wall between them too.
Yeah, with those numbers I’d be looking pretty hard at the router.
